Winter walks can be tough on a dog’s paws. I’ve tried a lot of boots, and most either slip off or feel too bulky. That’s when I found Pawz Dog Boots. I’ve been using them with my Golden Retriever, Ellie, for years, and they’ve become part of our routine.

In this Pawz Dog Boots review, I’ll share how they fit, how they hold up, what I like, what could be better, and whether they’re worth buying for your dog.

Why Choose Pawz Dog Boots?

Pawz Dog Boots are simple, lightweight, and easy to use. Here’s why they might work well for you and your dog:

  • All-Weather Protection: They shield your dog’s paws from snow, ice, hot pavement, and rough terrain. According to the Animal Humane Society, dog boots are one of the best ways to protect paws from harsh winter weather.
  • Comfortable Fit: No straps or zippers are needed. The flexible rubber lets your dog move naturally.
  • Keeps Paws Clean: Dirt, mud, and allergens stay out of your dog’s paws, which is great if your dog has sensitive skin.
  • Wound Protection: Boots cover minor cuts or paw injuries and help prevent licking.
  • Better Traction: Dogs who slip on smooth floors get extra grip, which is especially helpful for older dogs.
  • Eco-Friendly & Affordable: Made from biodegradable rubber, they’re reusable and won’t break the bank.

My Experience With Pawz Dog Boots

After trying many dog boots over the years, Pawz have been the easiest to use with my Golden Retriever, who loves snow. They’re simple, lightweight, and stay on well, even during our winter walks.

I also use them to protect minor cuts and on hot pavement in the summer.

Here’s what stood out for me.

What I Love:

  • Easy to put on: Quick to slip on once you get the hang of it, and stays on securely.
  • Flexible and natural: Thin, lightweight rubber lets your dog walk normally without feeling bulky.
  • Protects paws: Shields from snow, ice, salt, and even hot pavement in summer.
  • Affordable and eco-friendly: Made from biodegradable rubber, so replacing worn boots doesn’t feel wasteful.

What Could Be Better:

  • Durability: The rubber can wear out quickly on rough pavement.
  • Not for long hikes: Best suited for everyday walks rather than rugged trails.
  • Sizing: Can feel tricky if your dog is in between sizes.
  • No added warmth: Doesn’t provide extra insulation in very cold weather.

Even with those small drawbacks, Pawz has been the most practical option I’ve found. Ellie moves comfortably in them; they don’t fall off, and they’ve protected her paws more times than I can count. For a simple, dependable boot, they’ve been an easy go-to for us.

Size Guide and Tips for Putting on Pawz Dog Boots

Getting the right size is key to keeping Pawz Dog Boots on your dog comfortably. Here’s how to make sure they fit well:

Sizing Your Dog

  • Measure the paw: Have your dog stand on a piece of paper and mark the top and bottom of the longest part of their paw.
  • Check the size chart: Match your measurements to the manufacturer’s size guide. Colours usually indicate sizes for easier reference.
  • Fit test: Boots should fit snugly but not too tight. They should stay in place without cutting off circulation. If your dog is between sizes, it’s usually safer to go a size up.

Tips for Putting on the Boots

  • Start slow: Let your dog sniff and get used to the boots before trying to put them on.
  • Stretch before use: Stretch the boots with your hands to make them easier to slide over your dog’s paws.
  • Reward your dog: Treats help make the process positive and reduce resistance.
  • Practice makes perfect: The more you do it, the faster and easier it gets for both you and your dog.

Pro Tip: There’s a simple hack that can speed up putting them on. Check the video below to see it in action.

  1. I can relate perfectly to this post because after I got a Pawz boot for my dog (claw) she finds fun running around in my garden. Before then she had sustained a cut and was down for a month because it was really deep. If you have a dog I’ll advise you to get Pawz boots for her. Some designs on these boots are really pretty, sometimes I wish I had such designs on my shoe.

    • Hi Dane,

It’s great to hear that you and your dog both love Pawz dog boots.  Cuts on a dogs paw pad really take forever to heal and can make walking for your dog painful.  With these boots, your dog is protected and able to walk and run around.  These boots are beneficial to dogs, but they are also fun and stylish because they come in many colours.

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

      Jenny.

  2. I totally love these Pawz waterproof dog boots. Wow! I have never seen any before but going by what I read on this post, this is just simply awesome to own for any dog owner. The fact that it helps to prevent scrapes alone is a reason enough for me to go for it because my dog does get injured a lot whenever we walk through rough surfaces. But then, won’t size be a problem here in getting these Pawz dog boots? My dog is a fully-grown Labrador. Is there a way to get the perfect pair for her?

    • Hi RoDarrick,

Thank you for commenting.  Pawz boots are great and your dog will love them.  As for sizing, I would say that Large would probably be best for your Labrador.  On the back of the Large size package, it states the breeds that it would fit.  Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, and German Shepherds are large size boots.

Medium size is for paws up to 3 inches.

Large size is for paws 3-4 inches.

I have a Golden Retriever and she wears the large size boots, and they fit perfectly.

I hope this helps you out.

      Jenny.

  3. These look great! We have had our dog for a few months now but during the summer we realized quite quickly that we were unable to take her for a walk during the height of the day because the ground was just too hot!

I also reckon these dog boots will be great for when its wet outside and we just cannot persuade her to go outside at all. We don’t get very much snow where we live but would be handy to own some in case we do!

Thanks for a great informative post, i just never knew dog boots existed!

    • Hi Dianne, thanks for your comment.  Pawz Boots are so versatile and can be used for all types of weather conditions.  They are really great at protecting your dog’s paws from the hot pavement in the summer, and from the harsh winter chemicals and snow.  What’s great about these boots, is that they are so easy to put on and they stay on.  Your dog will love them, because it will feel like he/she is not wearing boots at all.
