It’s the day of love, February 14th is Valentine’s Day. You may be spending the day with your spouse or significant other showering them with love, affection and gifts, but don’t forget to include your furry best friend in all the festivities.

If you’re anything like me, you love and adore your dog just as much as your spouse, or maybe more (guilty!). So why not show your dog just how much you love them with something special? I have put together a list of Valentine gifts for dogs that will make any dog feel extra special and loved this Valentine’s Day.

If you think you’re the only one spoiling your dog this Valentine’s Day, think again! According to a survey done last year by rover.com, nearly half of all dog parents have planned a special Valentine’s Day just for their dog including buying their dog a new outfit or toy, and nearly half of dog owners enjoy cuddling their dog more than their significant other.

The love we have for our dogs is real, and if you’re wondering if your dog shares the same feelings, you’ll have to keep an eye out for these 12 signs of love.

Safety Tips To Keep In Mind

Treating your special pup to a Valentine’s Day gift is fun and exciting, but there are some important safety tips that you should always be aware of.

  1. Buy The Correct Size: When buying toys or treats for your dog you will want to be sure to get the appropriate size for your dog. Some toys are just too small for large dogs and can be a real safety concern for them. Toys that are too small can be a choking hazard for large dogs.
  2. Avoid Dangerous and Toxic Items: Everyone knows that chocolate is dangerous to dogs and should be avoided at all times. Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that should be avoided as well. Other items such as wrapping paper, ribbons, bows, and your flower arrangements are dangerous items too. Roses have thorns on them which are dangerous to your dog, and Lilies are toxic.
  3. Know Your Dog’s Chewing Style: Plush toys and toys that contain squeakers are great toys for dogs who are gentle chewers, but you will want to avoid these types of toys if your dog is an aggressive chewer. For heavy chewing dogs, you will want to get tough chew toys that are guaranteed to last.
  4. Supervision Is A Must: As with any new toy or treat that you give your dog, you will always want to supervise your dog. If your dog rips apart his new toy, make sure to remove the toy before any broken pieces are ingested.

10 Best Valentine Gifts For Dogs

Now that you are aware of the safety tips to keep in mind, let’s get to the fun part. Here are some great gifts to spoil your dog with this Valentine’s Day.

1. Zippy Paws Holiday Burrow Heart n’ Bears

Zippy Paws Holiday Burrow Dog Toy Heart n' Bears.

Give your dog hours of stimulating fun with this interactive plush toy from Zippy Paws. It is cute and festive, featuring 3 pink bears housed in a heart-shaped burrow.

Let your dog try to pull the bears out of their heart-shaped home, you could also hide the bears and let your dog sniff and hunt for them. The added squeakers in each bear will keep your dog even more entertained.

This puzzle toy challenges your dog’s mind and provides plenty of mental stimulation. You could also fill the red heart-shaped burrow with your dog’s favourite treats to add even more excitement.

This plush toy is ideal for small to medium-sized dogs, and not intended for tough chewers.

It measures 7 x 6 x 5″.

2. Tail Trends Valentine’s Day Bandana

Dog Bandana with red plaid hearts and the word Love.

Make your dog look cute and festive with a trendy Valentine’s Day bandana. While most dogs don’t enjoy wearing dog clothes, a bandana is certainly tolerated by dogs.

Your little Valentine will be stylish wearing this 100% cotton bandana. It is available in 2 sizes, small and medium and comes in 5 different designs that are all suitable for Valentine’s Day or any day of the year.

This bandana features a designer handmade felt applique on 100% cotton fabric. It is machine washable and has stitched edging for durability and longer wear.

Fun adorable designs for both male and female dogs. Medium size fits 8″-15″ neck size and Large fits 16″-24″ neck size.

3. Polka Dot Bowtie And Dog Collar

Red and white polka dot bowtie and dog collar set.

This soft and comfy bowtie and collar by Unique Style Paws will add a little Valentine’s Day style to your furry best friend.

The bowtie and collar come as a set, with the bowtie being attached to the collar by an elastic strap. The bowtie can be removed and worn on any collar of your choice, or if you wish the collar can be worn alone.

The collar and bowtie are made of thick and durable 100% cotton, and the collar features a heavy-duty metal D-ring for leash attachment and quick release metal buckle.

Each item is handmade to order using the best designer fabrics and top quality hardware. The bowtie is a traditional double bowtie and is hand sewn.

The collar is adjustable and the size of the bowtie will vary depending on the size of the collar. This set is available in 6 sizes ranging from XX-Small to X-Large.

It is important to note that this set cannot be machine washed, it is best to spot clean with soap and water.

4. Zippy Paws Jigglerz Valentine’s Pink Bear

Zippy Paws Jigglerz Valentine's Pink Bear dog toy.

This pink bear by Zippy Paws features crinkle paper in the head and tail and an exclusive jiggler noisemaker that squeaks when your dog shakes it from side to side.

There is no stuffing inside this toy which means less mess. Some dogs love to rip apart a toy just to get to the stuffing, there is no worry with this toy.

This soft plush toy is lined with an extra layer of tough Cordura material and it is cross-stitched to make it even more durable.

Your dog will love to carry this toy around and it is great for games of fetch or light tug of war sessions. This toy is durable enough to withstand rough play sessions, but aggressive chewers will have no problem ripping it apart.

5. Designer Handbag by Dog Diggin Designs

Chewy Vuiton Plush dog toy designer purse with red handles and trim.

Make your female dog feel special by giving her a designer handbag. Just think how adorable she will look carrying her very own purse in her mouth.

You may or may not be able to afford a designer handbag for yourself, but this designer handbag for your pup is way more affordable.

This Chewy Vuiton plush handbag for dogs features red trim and red handles. It is a soft plush with stuffing and a squeaker inside.

This toy is available in small and large sizes, but I suggest getting the large size because many owners say the small is very tiny even for small dogs.

The size of the small is 4″ x 3″, and the large measures 6″ x 4.5″. The large is ideal even for small dogs.

This toy is not recommended for tough chewers.

6. Zippy Paws Valentine’s Day Cookie Jar

Zippy Paws Holiday Burrow Valentine's Day Cookie Jar with 3 pink heart shaped cookies.

This plush toy is so fun and adorable. Who doesn’t love heart-shaped Valentine cookies? Satisfy your dog’s sweet tooth with these adorable cookies. The only ingredients in these cookies are hours of fun, love and squeaks.

I just love all the designs of these Zippy Paws Holiday Burrows, and this cookie jar is very festive for Valentine’s Day.

Your dog will love trying to dig the cookies out of their cookie jar home. Each of the 3 cookies has a squeaker to add even more fun. This puzzle toy will challenge your dog’s mind and keep him entertained for hours.

The cookies are perfect for tossing and fetching, or you could play hide and seek with them and let your dog hunt and sniff them. Fill the cookie jar home with your dog’s favourite treats to add even more excitement.

This plush toy is well made and durable. The soft plush fabric will not hurt your dog’s teeth, and it is great for teething puppies as well. It is great for small to medium-sized dogs but is not recommended for tough chewers.

This toy measures 5 x 5 x 8.5″.

7. Ultra Soft Pet Bed by Mora Pets

Small dog lying on a pink fleece soft bed mat.

Why not treat your dog to a nice soft comfortable pet bed. This soft bed mat will give your dog a more comfortable spot to lay on instead of the hard floor. This mat is ideal for use in a crate, a travel carrier, your vehicle or anywhere your dog lays.

This bed mat is a reversible design that features a colourful flannel on top and a soft fleece bottom. This mat has a generous thickness of 1.5 inches, which provides great cushioning to older and younger dogs.

It is lightweight and can be folded for storage or for easy transport. It is made with high-quality fleece and filled with cotton. If this mat gets dirty, you can simply machine wash it and throw it in the dryer.

Available in 4 sizes, with the largest size being ideal for dogs up to 40 pounds. It is also available in brown or dark blue.

There is a 1 Year Warranty on this bed mat.

8. Bagel Shaped Dog Bed by Majestic Pet

Brown and white dog laying in a red bagel shaped dog bed.

I couldn’t resist adding this bagel bed to the list because it fits the Valentine’s Day theme in this gorgeous red colour.

Not only is this a great-looking bed, but it is durable and high-quality and made in the USA. It is soft and comfortable and provides your dog with a well-deserved quality sleep.

It is bagel shaped which is ideal for dogs who love to get all cozy and snuggly and love to nest. The raised bolsters all around the bed provide your dog with a sense of security, as well as a soft cushioned spot to rest their head.

The outer material is made of 7-ounce Polyester/Cotton Twill, and the inside is filled with a Premium High Loft Polyester Fiber Fill. The bottom base is made of waterproof 300/600 Denier, to prevent any accidents or wetness leaking onto your floor.

The entire bed is easy to clean and can be machine washed and tumble dried.

Various sizes are available to suit small and large dogs, and it is available in different colours as well.

This is a very popular bed among dog owners and their dogs love how soft and comfortable this bed is. The bolsters and cushioning is very generously stuffed and provides a great amount of support.

Some of the drawbacks of this bed are that there is no zipper to remove the outside cover, it is all attached. To clean, you will either have to spot clean it or put the entire bed in the washing machine and dryer. The outer material easily gets covered in dog hair. To solve both of these issues I would put a blanket or a cover over the bed to protect it and keep it clean. That way you only need to wash the blanket.

9. Hands-Free Pet Carrier by Slowton

Lady wearing a fuchsia coloured hands free Slowton pet carrier sling with a small brown dog inside it.

Take your furry best friend wherever you go! This hands-free sling allows you to carry your small dog with you while you run errands. You and your dog can enjoy more outings together, such as going to the mall, grocery stores, bus or subway rides, to the park, or long distance walks.

This pet carrier is suitable for small pets weighing up to 13 pounds. It’s great for cats too and taking your pet to the vet’s office.

The shoulder strap is adjustable and comfortable for you to wear because it is padded with soft foam. It is safe for your pet because it includes an adjustable safety hook that attaches to your dog’s collar as well as 2 buttons on the opening of the bag to securely keep your dog in place.

The front of the bag features a zippered pocket for storing your cellphone, keys, dog treats, poop bags, or other small items. The bag is durable and is made of high-quality breathable cotton. It is easy to clean and can be machine washed.

Available in various colours.

10. Milk-Bone Interactive Treat Dispenser

Red Milk-Bone Active treat tumbler interactive dog toy.

Dog’s love their treats, and Milk Bones are a popular choice. With this treat tumbler, you can give your dog a treat in a whole other way. Your dog will be challenged and stimulated trying to get the Milk-Bone treats out of this tumbler.

This treat dispenser is made of durable high-quality non-toxic material and comes with a free pack of 20 Milk-Bone Mini’s biscuits.

Sit back and be entertained as your dog has fun trying to get those treats out. This tumbler releases a treat only when your dog moves it in a certain way. It is sure to keep your pup stimulated.

Tumbler is available in Small for dogs up to 24 pounds, and Medium for dogs 25-49 pounds.

Other Ways To Show Your Dog Love This Valentine’s Day

Okay, so you’re probably already showing your dog that he or she is your absolute number 1 every day of the year, but you can certainly show some extra love to your dog to make him or her feel extra special on Valentine’s Day. Here are some great ideas:

Go For A Nice Walk

You should be doing this daily already, but dogs love going for walks especially with their favourite human, you! Allow your dog some time to sniff around and enjoy the sights. You could even explore a new trail or neighbourhood to make the walk more special.

Do What Your Dog Loves To Do

Making your dog feel special means doing what he loves to do. Whether it’s going to the dog park, playing with his favourite toy, or engaging in a game of fetch or tug-of-war, your dog will be happy just doing what he loves.

Relax And Just Hang Out Together

Your dog loves nothing more than spending quality time with you. It doesn’t always have to involve physical activity, just hanging out together and enjoying a relaxing moment is a great way to bond.

Give Your Dog Plenty Of Belly/Ear Rubs

If your dog loves ear rubs or belly rubs, be sure to give him plenty to make him feel extra special.

  1. Thanks for 10 excellent suggestions for Valentine’s Day gifts for my dogs (I have two)…I like to share the love at any time of the year, but I also like to have the dogs be a part of the family, so often when we are doing something special on a special day we include the dogs too.

Love your Valentine’s Day Bandana gift idea and the other one that is one the doggies will enjoy – the Ultra Soft Pet Bed by Mora Pets. The dogs may not understand the bandana, but they sure will get that they are being treated special when they lay on that bed! Great and ordering these right now!

  2. I love your website, article, and suggestions! You truly are a dog lover. All the Valentine’s Day gifts you suggested are adorable. I believe I like the Polka Dot Bow Tie And Dog Collar the best. I can picture any doggie looking so cute and snazzy in that attire. The Hands-Free Pet Carrier By Slowton is perfect for people with purse pooches. It’s too bad my cat would never tolerate being toted around like that. 🙂

Thank you for sharing such adorable ways to celebrate love with your dogs. 🙂

    • Hi Cathy,

Yes, I am a huge dog lover!  I am so glad you liked all of these Valentine Gifts.  The red and white polka dot bowtie and collar is very festive and any dog would look stylish wearing that.

I don’t think that any cat would enjoy being toted around like that, lol.  Cats don’t tolerate as much as dogs do.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
